Sacramento, CA. Sam K. Shimomura, Pharm.D., FASHP, FCSHP has been awarded CSHP’s Lifetime Honorary Membership Award for 2017. As a CSHP member since the early 1970's, Dr. Shimomura has served CSHP on all major leadership roles of the organization from serving as President (1990) and on numerous committees, councils and task forces, such as the Task Force on Publications, Chair of the Continuing Education Committee, Chair of the Finance Committee and Seminar Management Teams, to name just a few examples.
"Sam Shimomura has played a pivotal role in CSHP having been recognized with CSHP’s highest honors, Distinguished Service Award (DSA) and Pharmacist of the Year (POY), and has influenced and helped shape the careers of countless California Pharmacists through his work at two schools of pharmacy. Sam has demonstrated consistent excellence in our profession and continuous dedication to CSHP. Congratulations to my friend, Sam Shimomura, for recognition of your outstanding contributions with a CSHP [Lifetime] Honorary Membership!" said Lisa Gunther Lum, Pharm.D., FASHP, FCSHP.
Dr. Shimomura currently resides as the Associate Dean of the Western University of Health Sciences College of Pharmacy, where he has held academic positions since 1996. Prior to that, Dr. Shimomura held academic positions at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Pharmacy since graduating in 1970. Dr. Shimomura has also been the faculty liaison from the pharmacy schools to CSHP for many years.
The CSHP Board of Directors bestows lifetime Honorary Membership on individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to CSHP, the profession of pharmacy in health-care settings or the community.
Dr. Shimomura and other award recipients will be honored during CSHP’s Awards Reception at Seminar 2017 on Saturday, October 28, 2017.
