SR 59 (Dodd) - Latex Allergy Awareness Resolution Passed

Dear Pharmacy Professionals,

On September 5, 2017, Senate Resolution 59, relating to Latex Allergy Awareness Week was unanimously supported and adopted by the California Senate. SR 59 establishes the week of October 1st through October 7th as Latex Allergy Awareness Week in California!

Cindy Hespe, BS, FCSHP,  a national latex allergy advocate in this field and a CSHP member, worked with Senator Bill Dodd to obtain this resolution. Cindy spoke on this patient safety achievement,

"As a pharmacist, patient advocacy is core to my principles, and so it is with that principle and passion that I strive to advocate for those individuals who, like me, must navigate the world safely while living with a potentially life-threatening latex allergy.  This senate resolution, sponsored by Senator Bill Dodd, is an important step in raising awareness and strengthening advocacy for preventative latex allergy efforts.  I am grateful to Senator Dodd for his support of up to 2 million Californians who have a latex allergy. Senate Resolution 59 shows that California is moving in the right direction to raise awareness and facilitate change to support the latex allergy community."
