Sacramento, CA - The California Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP) has named Dr. Kristine Keller as the recipient for CSHP’s Resident/Fellow of Distinction Award for 2018.
Dr. Keller received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy in 2016. It was there that Dr. Keller’s passion for legislative efforts developed via multiple platforms. Serving as a coalition steering member for Healthy School Foods, Maryland, her activities included lobbying and testifying for bills to promote school food transparency and reduced sugar in public school lunches. In addition to speaking to state committees on these issues, Dr. Keller also presented these issues at the Maryland Legislative Agenda for Women Conference and was a guest speaker on a public television show, Forward Motion. Dr. Keller's efforts with public policy also extended to the Maryland Public Health Association Advocacy Committee and Maryland Pharmacy Coalition as a district group leader promoting and advocating for pharmacy legislation during school Legislative Days.
With Dr. Keller's move to the West Coast, she continued her efforts in California while concurrently completing her postgraduate year 1 and postgraduate year 2 critical care specialty residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Keller participated in CSHP Golden Gate Affiliate Chapter Board Meetings and found that CSHP's mission to promote wellness, patient safety, and optimal use of medication hit home, and immediately volunteered to serve on the New Practitioner's Executive Committee (2017-2018). During the following year, she became a more active member of CSHP's Golden Gate Affiliate Chapter and is currently a Continuing Education Committee member in addition to serving as a delegate. Dr. Keller also currently serves at the state-level on CSHP's Government Affairs Advisory Committee (GAAC) which reviews all bills before the state legislature and collectively recommends positions and priorities for legislative action that are of interest to CSHP and impact the practice of pharmacy.
As a leader and mentor to her fellow pharmacists, Dr. Keller exemplifies the intent behind the Resident/Fellow of Distinction Award and we are proud to be recognizing her during the CSHP Seminar 2018 Awards Ceremony held on Saturday, October 6th at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina.
