First Act as Governor, Gavin Newsom
Takes on Cost of Prescription Drugs & Fights For Health Care For All

Dear @@first_name@@ ,

Via an Executive Order (link) the Governor has ordered the Department of General Services (DGS) and the California Pharmaceutical Collaborative to:

  • Transition Medical Managed Care and Fee-For-Service to Bulk Purchasing in January 2021.
  • Develop and implement bulk purchasing arrangements for high-priority drugs, such as those with high cost and little competition.

  •  Develop a framework for enabling private purchases to benefit from the State bulk pharmaceutical purchasing.

In response to this announcement, CSHP CEO, Loriann De Martini, PharmD, BCGP, spoke stating, "2019 will bring many changes to our state and under Governor Gavin Newsom’s leadership CSHP stands ready to work together with his administration to address escalating prescription drug costs and advancement of access to quality care for all California’s citizens."
