CEO Update - August 2020
Loriann De Martini, PharmD, MPH, BCGP - CEO

Dear CSHP Friends & Colleagues,

It is my honor to represent you and the pharmacist profession as we work together to enhance patient care during this pandemic and into the future. It has been a busy few weeks … here are some highlights:

Push to Establish Emergency Pharmacist Provider Status in the Next COVID-19 Legislative Package
With the ultimate goal of increasing COVID-19 testing and immunization access, I have contacted both Senator Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris to request their support establishing emergency pharmacist provider status in the next COVID-19 legislative package. As front-line health care providers there is more we could be doing during this pandemic. View my letter and supporting material to Sen. Feinstein online here and my letter to Sen. Harris

Ongoing FREE Training for Senate Bill 159: Pharmacist Delivered HIV Preventative Care
CSHP played a critical role in SB 159’s development and regulatory approval, and we are honored to provide the needed education so pharmacists can help their patients and their communities. CSHP’s industry-wide free training July 29 reached attendance capacity (500 participants) in three days highlighting the enormous interest in providing this treatment.

The webinar itself went incredibly well with Jim Scott, PharmD, BCPS, AAHIVP, FCSHP as the moderator and speakers: Jennifer Cocohoba, PharmD, BCPS, AAHIVP, FCSHP, Monica A. Donnelley, PharmD, BCIDP, BCPS, AQ-ID, AAHIVP, Jerika Lam, PharmD, AAHIVP, FCSHP, and Christina Madison, PharmD, BCACP, AAHIVP. Our deep appreciation to our moderator and speakers for their time and expertise! We have created the SB159 Resource Page that includes presentation slides, Title 16 language, and website links. We will be adding additional training on-demand later this month. Watch for updates.

CSHP Urges CDPH to Allow Pharmacy Clinical Rotations
July 30th, CSHP contacted Dr. Sonia Angell, Director, California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recommending that pharmacy students be allowed to participate in clinical rotations. The recent CDPH All Facilities Letter updating guidance on visit limitations allows nursing students to enter facilities to obtain necessary clinical experience. Pharmacy students should be afforded these same accommodations to complete their professional training.  Read letter online.

Continuing Hospital Leadership Calls with CDPH and BoP
CSHP hosts a bi-weekly call with 200+ hospital pharmacy leaders throughout California. During this pandemic, these connections lead to critical discussions about challenges, best practices, and opportunities to collaborate.

Pacific Coast Preceptor Conference – Virtual Edition was a Huge Success!
We welcomed more than 100 participants from multiple states to this year’s two-day virtual PCPC. Live and on-demand sessions provided more than 17 CEUs. We hosted 13 of our industry supporters, and we thank them for their participation!

Though we certainly missed the face-to-face interaction, CSHP is committed to providing the education and networking you need to continue your professional development. In addition to the workshops, PCPC included virtual booths where you could engage one-on-one with industry supporters. We even kicked off the conference with a virtual happy hour and scavenger hunt. Where there’s a will and need to meet, there’s a way!

I thank you for your continued support of CSHP and for all that you do each day for the profession of pharmacy and the patients you serve.

Together we are and will continue to be leaders in the
#PharmacyEvolution.

Sincerely,

Loriann De Martini, PharmD, MPH, BCGP
Chief Executive Officer, CSHP
