Special Invited Guest
For Pharmacy Professionals of California Political Action Committee (PPC-PAC) 2018, we are thrilled to host Asm. Shirley Weber and Asm. Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher!
Dr. Shirley Weber represents California’s 79th Assembly District, which includes Bonita, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Chula Vista, and San Diego. Dr. Weber attended University of California, Los Angeles, where she received three degrees by the age of 26: a bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts, and a PhD in communications. Having served on the San Diego Board of Education, Dr. Weber became an inspiring role model for her focus on education. Elected in November 2012, Dr. Weber has continued being a strong advocate for closing the achievement gap and pursuing a higher standard of excellence for all children. In addition, Dr. Weber has successfully authored bills on limiting efforts to market unhealthy foods to students on school campuses, providing accurate information to those transitioning out of the correctional system, and required skilled nursing facilities to provide written notices of discharge and eviction be given to the residents and resident’s representatives.
Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher is a prominent advocate for California’s working and middle class. Elected in May 2013, Lorena brought forth practical and progressive legislation that has alleviated real issues in people’s lives. In 2014, Lorena authored AB 1522, historic legislation that allowed 6.5 million Californians the ability to earn paid sick leave, the first of its kind in the nation. She is also behind the California New Motor Voter Act, helping millions of Californians to easily register to vote. Lorena has also taken on women’s equality issues, aiming to close the gender pay gap, and authored legislation to classify cheerleading as a sport in high school. Furthermore, Lorena has worked passionately to pass critical bills to protect jobs of grocery workers, create the first workplace bullying training requirement in the nation, protect immigrant communities from legal service fraud and mandate public schools to test their drinking water for lead.
Why Should I Attend?
The California Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ primary mission is to represent and empower Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians practicing in Health-Systems to “Promote Wellness, Patient Safety and Optimal Use of Medications”; and our political action committee, PPC-PAC (Pharmacy Professionals of California Political Action Committee), is a key component of our government affairs strategy. Working in concert with our professional legislative, policy and regulatory lobbying firm, and our active CSHP members at the grassroots level, the PPC-PAC is a key tool in helping to spread the pro-pharmacy message.
Every single CSHP member – pharmacists, technicians, students, and vendors – has a stake in a healthy and successful pharmacy profession. The ability of pharmacists to continue to be recognized as leaders and promote wellness, patient safety and the optimal use of medications, and deliver valued services to them – while doing this effectively and efficiently – rests on the financial strength of the PPC-PAC.
We need to continue to bolster our PAC to help make CSHP an even stronger advocate for the pro-pharmacy message and to Promote Wellness, Patient Safety and Optimal Use of Medications for Californians.
Please join us for this marquee political fundraising event. Our Reception will feature the leaders who shape the policy discussions, decide the legislative agenda, and work to make sure that empowering pharmacists continues to be a priority at the California State Legislature and Regulatory agencies.
CSHP members, supporters and friends are the key to PPC-PAC’s success, and remains the foundation of our ability to continue in the future. Your financial support plays a pivotal role in making sure that the pharmacists have a loud, clear, unified and effective voice in Sacramento.
